Planning a road trip to Devon with your dog? Whether you're travelling from near or far, regular stops are essential for both two-legged and four-legged passengers to stretch their legs, grab a bite to eat, and enjoy a change of scenery.
We've rounded up some of the best dog-friendly stops along the M5 and nearby routes to help make your journey as enjoyable as the destination itself.
Gloucester Services
More than just a motorway service station, Gloucester Services is a fantastic stop for dogs and humans alike. There's a dedicated traffic-free dog walking area with countryside views and easy access from the car park. Dogs are welcome in the foyer of the main building, and water bowls are available at the entrances.

Blaise Castle Estate – Near Junction 17
Just a short detour from Junction 17, Blaise Castle Estate offers 400 acres of beautiful parkland and woodland to explore. With free entry, a café, and a children's playground, it's the perfect place for the whole family to enjoy a relaxing break from the road.

Cheddar Gorge – Near Junction 22
If you have a little extra time, Cheddar Gorge makes a wonderful stop-off. Wander through the picturesque village, explore scenic walking routes, and treat your pup to something special from the local dog bakery. The dramatic gorge views make it well worth the detour.

Canalside Walk at Maunsel Lock – Near Junction 24
Around 10 minutes from the motorway, Maunsel Lock offers peaceful canalside walks ideal for stretching legs before continuing your journey. Stop by the local tea room for refreshments and enjoy a quieter pace before getting back on the road.

The Globe Inn – Tiverton
Once you've left the M5, The Globe Inn is a welcoming dog-friendly pub overlooking the Grand Western Canal. It's an ideal final stop for a scenic stroll and a relaxed drink or meal before the last leg of your journey.

Knightshayes – Near Tiverton (A361)
If you're ahead of schedule and fancy one more break, Knightshayes National Trust estate welcomes dogs on leads all year round. The beautiful gardens and parkland provide plenty of space for a leisurely walk before completing the final stretch to North Devon.

Quince Honey Farm – South Molton
Located just off the A361, Quince Honey Farm is a great family-friendly stop before arriving in North Devon. The award-winning Nectary Restaurant serves homemade meals, light bites, and sweet treats, while dogs on leads are welcome throughout the restaurant and attractions (excluding the soft play area).
