The Tree Top Story

Brought to life from a dream in September 2014, Tree Top Escape is nestled within the beautiful Millbrook Estate. It’s lovingly run by owners Kate and Bob, who live onsite, along with their incredible team of wedding coordinators, housekeepers, gardeners, groundskeepers, and more.

Like most great stories, Tree Top Escape began with a simple dream shared by us, Kate and Bob Boothby. We realised that while the traditional ‘big white wedding’ is perfect for some, many couples long for a more intimate, personal, and perhaps slightly quirkier way to celebrate their marriage—making their union truly special. And so, the idea of Tree Top Escape was born…

From a Dream to Reality...
After moving to Millbrook Estate in 2005 and running our award-winning 5-star holiday accommodation for several years, Tree Top Escape was our next big venture, and planning for this unique and intimate wedding venue started in September 2014. After almost 2 years in the works, our stunning Tree House and accompanying facilities were finally brought to life and we have lovingly run it ever since with the help of our fantastic team!

From wedding coordinators and housekeepers to gardeners and groundskeepers, our small but wonderful team is so important to us here at Tree Top Escape as we simply couldn’t provide our unique service without each of them!

From the moment you make your booking, our friendly wedding coordinators Nicola, Sam and Justine will be on hand to look after you before and after your arrival, helping to arrange all the finer details and ensuring everything is simply perfect for you on your big day.

Nicola

Tree Top Escape Coordinator

Nicola (aka Nic) moved to North Devon over 10 years ago and loves living near the coast, enjoying dog walks on the beach with her husband and crazy cocker spaniel.

Nicola’s favourite part of her role as Tree Top Escape Coordinator, is the huge smile on couples faces just after they’ve said I Do, and of course meeting the four-legged best men and flower girls.

Sam

Tree Top Escape Coordinator

Sam looks after Tree Top Escape weddings on a Saturday’s. Sam is a Devon girl and loves spending time with her horse, Dylan.

Sam always likes having a good giggle with couples, helping to put them at ease on their wedding day.

Sam is also a trained beauty therapist at the local salon in High Bickington.

Justine

Tree Top Escape Coordinator

Justine looks after Ceremony Only Tree Top Escape weddings on Monday’s and Friday’s. Justine isn't office based but contactable when you need her.

Justine is also a fantastic chef and can be found cooking delicious meals for couples on their wedding day.

Cat

Tree Top Escape Housekeeper

Cat is our Tree Top Escape’s housekeeper, ensuring that everything is perfect ahead of your arrival. Cat’s bubbly and friendly personality means you can’t help but smile and laugh when in her company.

When Cat’s finished making your stay perfect, she loves to spend time outdoors with her family, as well as her furry family.

Over the years, Tree Top Escape and Millbrook Estate have been recognised for doing things thoughtfully, personally and consistently well — across both our intimate weddings and luxury accommodation.

We’re incredibly proud to have received the Feefo Platinum Trusted Service Award in 2026, marking the second time we’ve achieved Platinum status. In the same year, we were also honoured with the Feefo Exceptional Service Award — an accolade awarded to just 32 businesses worldwide and regarded as the highest recognition within Feefo’s awards programme. Both awards are based entirely on verified guest reviews and recognise businesses that consistently deliver outstanding service — something that means a great deal to us as a small, family-run business.

Our work has also been celebrated within the Tourism Awards, with Gold Awards for Accommodation and a Gold Award for Wedding Venue of the Year at the Devon Tourism Awards. In addition, our commitment to welcoming four-legged guests has been recognised with Dog Friendly Business of the Year awards in both Devon and the South West.
